Yes. And at the same time, I do find this conversation really tricky, because being autistic *can* be really disabling for the autistic person, as well as challenging—emotionally, socially, physically—for the people who love and care for autistic folks. Both of my kids are autistic, and parenting them feels radically different for me and my husband than parenting seems for our friend with neurotypical kids. I try to hold in my mind that two things can exist: being autistic can, in this society, make things harder, AND it isn't the *autism* itself that's the problem.
