It's so interesting. I think that, in 2016, that was definitely the case for me. But my brain pretty quickly incorporated all the new data that election gave us, and I came into 2024 with a more accurate understanding of the conservative movement and, more broadly, the American electorate. I feel like that's a less frequently acknowledged characteristic of many autistic minds: the ability to, with clear eyes, take in new information, even if it's upsetting.
